As I mentioned in a previous article, Dominica is not known for its beaches. Dominica's beaches are made up of dark gray or jet black volcanic sands. The shores are somewhat rocky, and not suited to barefoot strolls; however, if you are an avid snorkel fan, then you will definitely want to visit Champagne!!
Champagne, which is aptly named because of the bubbles which rise from below the area, is Dominica's premier snorkeling site. It is shrouded by palm trees, and is full of sunshine and a great spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. The peace and quiet found at this location is just what many persons are looking for; yet, one is still in close proximity to the city and its amenities. Champagne is located 1.8 miles from Soufriere Sulphur Springs, on the southern coast of Dominica. Champagne is close to Pointe Michel, so walking the town is a definite option.
